This class will teach how to raise your own mushrooms, including shiitake, chester, and oyster mushrooms. Information will be shared on growing and using native mushrooms as well as sources for supplies. Techniques for identifying edible mushrooms in the wild as well as how to harvest and preserve them will also be discussed. Participants will inoculate logs with mushroom spores to take with them to grow. Students are encouraged to bring a notebook and writing utensils to take notes. Please wear clothing that can get dirty. All of the other necessary supplies will be provided by the instructor.
Ron and Margaret Stelck live near Cushing, Minnesota. They have been raising mushrooms for 9 years. Ron now teaches classes on raising mushrooms at various locations throughout the area while Margaret teaches how to preserve and use the mushrooms.
